And so the Bad News... - March 8, 2007

Unfortunately, because of the band's focused efforts on the upcoming album, Gringo Sol, they have been forced to cancel their most recent Northwest Tour.

This mean they will be adding a few new Texas dates and that the next time they visit all their friends up in Northwest, they'll have a brand new album to play 'em.

Be sure to check the website for more updates and may the Skoob be with each of you!!!

Gringo Sol is on it's Way!!! - March 5, 2007

The long awaited and much talked about Doctor Skoob studio album, "Gringo Sol", is well on it's way! The album will be recorded in Lubbock at Digital Base Productions inside their beautiful Studio A facility, with Bryan Cooke behind the helm and the Skoob's own Kid Shadow making his producing debut.

This musical declaration hasn't forgotten about it's listener's other senses, either, it will also include some amazing album art by the always intriguing Dan Enger of Taos, NM.

Doctor Skoob's Gringo Sol is expected for release to the public on May 31st, 2007 in conjunction with their kick off of the annual Buddy Holly Summer Showcase Series in Lubbock, TX. This show will then be followed by another completely different skoob performance up the street at La Diosa Cellars starting at 9pm.

Stay tuned for more updates & please sign up to our email list and please keep your info up to date if you're already on it. We appreciate all of your support & love you all!!!

New Drummer? - October 26, 2005

That's right, kids. Today is the day that it goes down and those of you who faithfully check the website and your skoob-emails will be on top of it.
Mike B.'s (a.k.a. Mike Bernal's) last show is tonight at Rocky Larues. So, expect to hear his favorite jams! Spring Creek Bluegrass Band will be opening at 9:30. We recommend you all wear your party pants.
Then on Thursday at La Diosa we'll be breaking in our new drummer, David Hernandez, as only we can - By playing all new songs!!! It should be a good good time and a night of Skoob firsts.
And if you can't catch those, then maybe we can catch up in Taos at the Adobe Bar on Friday. Have a great week!

Whew, What a Week! - July 18, 2005

Well, we made it through last week w/ the BHC gig and the release of "Live Lubbock Nights" and we are well on our way to recovering from it all. We would like to thank the Buddy Holly Center and their wonderful staff for having us. Also many thanks go out to Cowboy Dan and the staff at 88.1 FM KTXT - as well as to NBC's Channel 11 KCBD & Fox's Channel 34 KJTV for putting our ugly mugs on the TV, too. Our mothers would be so proud. Thanks to all of our fans (old and new) for all the support and a huge thanks to Mandy Holbert (bass) & Alan Roberts (guitar) for jammin' w/ us at La Diosa after the BHC gig.

If you'd like to purchase our new album, "Live Lubbock Nights", please email us at or come catch us at one of the many venues that we play around town. It is also available at the gift shop in the Buddy Holly Center, too.

Thanks again,

McIntyre Pickups Put the Acoustic back in the Acoustic Groove! - March 18, 2005

For those of you who have followed the Skoob from the beginning, you probably remember all of the trouble that we've had with Fletch's mandolin. It used to be that we had only two choices: it could either be right on the verge of feeding back or it couldn't be heard at all. This is why we switched to the little blue electric mando, and though it is cool to have that option of going electric - we still missed the rootsy sound of the Fletch's acoustic (a.k.a. Miss Mandy).
Well, now thanks to a man by the name of Carl McIntyre, who we heard about through Blue Grass legend Joe Carr, Miss Mandy is back and she will be in full force this evening at La Diosa. This new pickup sounds great (in fact, it sounds just like an acoustic mandolin is supposed to sound), light as a feather (thus the name featherlite), and cost was extremely reasonable. We really can't thank Carl enough for his help and genius, because without them we'd probably have to eventually change the name to the Electric Groove or spend thousands of dollars on a new electric/acoustic.
If you are interested in learning more about McIntyre Pickups and how they can solve your various amping an acoustic woes, then check out Carl's website under our LINKS heading. Thanks again Carl for all the help!

Doctor Skoob goes on Vacation & the Groove goes Bluegrass on Tuesday at the Spoon! - February 22, 2005

Well, the Skoob has been on a brief hiatus, while the Doctor headed south for a few days of rest and relaxation. The good news is that he's back and ready for action.
Tonight (Tuesday 2-22-05), he will play a short solo set to get everybody warmed up at the Texas Cafe (aka the Spoon) for Fletch & Anne's bluegrass side project, Flatfoot Toby (aka The Incredible Edible Bluegrass Band). They will be joined by Geoff Johnson on banjo and Mark Hill on guitar & vocals. So, come on down to the Spoon tonight 'cause we're throwing a hoedown!
Then Doctor Skoob & the Acoustic Groove will back in full swing at Jazz on Weds. (2-23), Crickets on Thurs. (2-24), and La Diosa on Fri. (2-25). So, bring your friends and enjoy the Skoob all week long. And if you don't have any friends, then makes some new ones and introduce them to the world of the Skoob. Trust me, they will be impressed by your great taste in music and want to hang out with you more. Have a Skoobalicious Week!!!

Mikado is on their way... - February 8, 2005

We are all looking forward to this week. Starting tomorrow we'll be at Jazz. Then on Thursday in the afternoon we will be playing a special Valentine's Day Dance for the kids at the State School before heading over to Flatlanders as we help them welcome in their new late hours on Thursday and Friday night. And then comes Saturday, where we'll be joined by our friend's from Austin, Mikado, at Crickets. This show will kick off at 9pm with some local Blue Grass pickin' followed by the Skoob and Mikado. Mikado is a band that fuses a wide range of funk, jazz, and world music sources with the visceral power of classic rock and energy music. So just go ahead and clear your social calendars this weekend, because the Doctor is in and he is rockin'!!!

Believe it or not, but it's been One Year!!! - February 6, 2005

That's right, kiddos, Doctor Skoob and the Acoustic Groove has offiicially made it to our one year anniversay and it was great. We would like to thank everyone who has supported us along the way and we give you our word that the best is yet to come. We really do love you all and hopefully together we'll keep on groovin'.

It's a small world, but I wouldn't want to paint it... - January 25, 2005

Well, the New Year is up and rolling and so is the Skoob. Everyone's support has been absolutely fantastic. We are currently looking forward to playing with our friends, Mikado, from Austin on the 12th of Febuary at Crickets (aka Abraham Lincoln's b-day, so wear your stove-top). It should be a great time, so also be sure and wear your party-pants, too!!!

Please keep checking the site for shows and updates. We also appreciate everyone who has signed our guestbook and/or joined our mailing list. The Skoob loves you all!

The Skoob's New Year's Resolutions - January 5, 2005

1. Record at least 2 studio albums and 1 live.

2. Create a website (check)

3. Continue bringing the Skoob to the people of earth and other surrounding areas

4. Create an alternate fuel source by building a car that will run on the sweet taste of butter (rather than that margerine crap)

5. Take a bath in mashed potatoes w/ Abraham Lincoln and Paris Hilton, so that we can discuss the current state of the world (yes, gravy is a must for this sort of summit)

6. Free the youth from bad taste in music

7. Be the best Skoob that
Skoob can be!!!

Happy New Year!!!
